Top Ten songs to listen to

Hannah Elliott

In the summer of 2016, Hannah Elliott (11) went to see one of her favorite bands in concert. She traveled up to Atlanta to see Panic! at the Disco. "I have loved this band for a long time," Elliott said. "Their songs mean a lot to me."

1. High Horse – Kacey Musgraves

This is my favorite song to listen to right now. The genre of the song can be described as a mixture of country and disco, something you would not expect to hear. The song is about people who are on a “high horse,” meaning they think they are better than everyone else. The song makes me feel more powerful for some reason, so it gets played a lot in my car and at home.

 2. Sucker – Jonas Brothers

After seven years of not being a band, the three Jonas Brothers – Joe, Nick, and Kevin –  have reunited and dropped a single. The brothers said that there is “a magic when we’re together that we really missed.” The pop song has a catchy beat and lyrics that make it easy to sing along. My inner preteen girl gets excited to hear my previous celebrity crushes.

3. Valentine – 5SOS

5 Seconds of Summer have been one of my favorite bands for a few years now. Their music has changed from emo/punk to retro/pop, which shows how they have matured. Valentine is a song about the person you love.

4. Bad Guy – Billie Eilish

17-year-old Billie Eilish has been on the rise lately. Her latest album took the world by storm; it instantly became a bestseller. Bad Guy is an unexpected sound from the young girl, but her music has always been different. Eilish said in an interview, “I think when you don’t try super hard, things just tend to happen faster.”

5. Speechless – Dan + Shay

Yet another country song on the list, Speechless is a song they wrote about their wives. The video is also really sweet, with videos from both guys’ weddings. The song puts me in a good mood because it makes me think about my boyfriend. He always plays the song when we are driving around town.

6. Lost in Japan – Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes is one of my favorite solo artists right now. The song was inspired by songs by Justin Timberlake, and it shows. The catchy pop tune is easy to dance to, and puts me in a good mood. I am seeing him in concert this summer, so I hope he sings this song.

7. Another Sad Love Song – Khalid

This song is off of Khalid’s first album American Teen. The whole album is about Khalid’s teenagerhood. He says that, “I was so naive and young when I wrote American Teen. I thought I knew everything, but I knew nothing at all.” The relatable song makes the world feel a little smaller when you feel like it is against you.

8. Hey Look Ma, I Made It – P!ATD

After many hit albums, Panic! At the Disco  released another good one. This song is my favorite off of the album, as it talks about how he put his best effort forward to become successful.

9. breathin – Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande has been through a lot in this last year. This song is about the anxieties she has gone through and how she deals with them. It makes me feel calmer when I am having a bad day.

10. Trip – Ella Mai

This single from Ella Mai got quite popular. The song is about the feelings she has for someone. I can relate to the song, and it is really fun to sing along to.
